Climate Action Network (CAN) Europe is Europe’s leading NGO coalition fighting dangerous climate change. We are currently seeking a motivated and talented Coordinator for the Civil Society Observatory on Methane (CSO-M) to work on reducing our fossil gas dependency with a specific focus on methane. The successful candidate will co-lead the Secretariat of the Civil Society Observatory on Methane (CSO-M) together with Environmental Defense Fund Europe (EDF-E), providing strategic direction and coordination to strengthen the platform’s role as a key civil society hub on methane in Europe. You will work with the CAN Europe membership and beyond to ensure the protection of the EU Methane Regulation and its ambitious implementation in EU Member States.
Main responsibilities
Co-lead the CSO-M Secretariat with EDF Europe, ensuring effective day-to-day functioning of the platform.
Co-coordinate the CSO-M monthly general meetings, organise agendas, speakers, national inputs, facilitate meetings and ensure follow-up.
Support develop and implement the strategic direction of the CSO-M, including its priorities, annual work plan and long-term development.
Reinforce the CSO-M’s governance, working structures and membership.
Coordinate actively with CSO-M and CAN Europe members to ensure best possible national implementation of the EU Methane Regulation.
Required qualifications
At least 5 to 7 years of relevant professional experience, including 3+ years in senior network or alliance coordinator positions.
Proven ability to clearly communicate, both orally and in written, track record in coordinating processes and chairing meetings.
Experience of working with NGO networks, institutions and industry associations on climate and energy topics.
Effective time management with experience working in a fast-paced environment and ability to deliver on deadlines. Excellent organisational skills.
Passionate about the energy transition and phasing out fossil fuels.
Fluent in spoken and written English. Other European languages are a bonus.
Other desirable qualities:
Demonstrated alignment with the mission and the values of CAN Europe.
Experience with working in multicultural and multilingual environments.
Strong ICT and digital skills with knowledge of contact database software and management.
What CAN Europe offers
This position (full time or part-time, minimum 80% FTE) is based in the CAN Europe Secretariat in Brussels, Belgium and is line-managed by the Fossil Free Programme Manager. The work will be closely coordinated with the Gas Policy Coordinator and Gas Communications officer. We are not considering sponsoring visas this time.
We offer a Belgian open-ended contract with an expected salary between 4300 EUR and 5400 EUR gross/month for a full time position depending on the relevant years of experience (minimum 5-7 years) and subject to Belgian tax; Meal vouchers (7,00 €/day); transport costs; eco-vouchers (250,00 €/year); sport and culture vouchers (100,00 €/year), phone allowance (39,00 €/month); work computer; and support for home office setup.
